Scientific evidence and innovative health research are key components to healthy communities and a resilient economy. As BC’s health research agency, our funding programs develop, retain and attract people committed to improving the health of British Columbians. We’re announcing three competitions coming this fall.

Building research talent for BC’s future

Our Health Professional-Investigator (HP-I) and Scholar competitions will launch concurrently in October 2024. The Research Trainee competition will launch in November 2024.

  • Health Professional-Investigator – October 2024
The HP-I Program supports health professionals actively involved in patient care to build health research programs.
  • Scholar – October 2024
The Scholar Program supports early career health researchers by helping them form their own research teams, train the next generation of scientists, and develop world-leading research programs.
  • Research Trainee – November 2024
The Research Trainee Program supports the best and brightest health researchers in training to enable career development and support world-class health research in BC.

These funding programs champion health practitioners and health researchers as they use their expertise to gather evidence, launch innovations and improve health outcomes.

Evolving our application process

For these competitions Health Research BC is transitioning from the Canadian Common CV (CCV) platform to using the application forms in our grants management system (ApplyNet) to record career details. This process is part of our commitment to support equity, diversity and inclusion in health research and align with the principles of the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). Watch for more information this fall.
