Guy Faulkner

Dr. Guy Faulkner is a professor and chair in applied public health in the School of Kinesiology at UBC (appointed July 2015). In 2014, his research excellence in the field of population health and physical activity was awarded with a Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Public Health Agency of Canada (CIHR-PHAC) Chair in Applied Public Health (2014-2019). Broadly, his research has focused on two inter-related themes: the effectiveness of physical activity interventions; and physical activity and mental health. Faulkner was the founding editor of the Elsevier journal ‘Mental Health and Physical Activity’ and was named as a Clarivate Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher, 2020 and 2021 for being internationally named as one of the most highly cited researchers ranked in the top 1 percent by citations for social sciences by Web of Science. He currently serves as chair of the ParticipACTION research advisory committee (2010 – present) and is a member of the Research Work Group for the 2012-2022 National Active Healthy Kids Canada Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth.
