Study groups hosted by Clinical Trials BC as part of the Clinical Research Professionals (CRP) certification program.

Achieving professional certification is a crucial step for clinical research professionals who want to elevate their careers and open doors to new opportunities.

Clinical Trials BC, part of Michael Smith Health Research BC, is committed to ensuring clinical trial excellence across British Columbia. Through our clinical research professional (CRP) certification program, we provide financial and resource assistance for clinical research team members working at BC academic-based or health authority-affiliated research sites to get certified.

The program supports individuals working in clinical research to earn certifications from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) and Society of Quality Assurance (SQA). We’re delighted to expand our support this year to include the Registered Quality Assurance Professional (RQAP-GCP) credential from SQA. The addition of this credential to our program demonstrates our organization’s continuing commitment to advancing the collective priorities identified in British Columbia’s vision for clinical trials.

The program offers financial assistance of up to $450 towards exam fees. Additionally, there is an extensive repository of study materials and practice tests on our electronic community of practice platform. We also run study groups where our Regulatory Affairs & Quality Officer, along with previous program participants, share their experiences and help candidates navigate the exam structure and content. These supports enable them to be better prepared for their exams.

“The CRP certification program from Clinical Trials BC was a game-changer for me. The financial support for exam costs eased the financial strain, so I could concentrate on my studies.”, says Ali Hosseni, ACRP-CP, Clinical Research Coordinator, Fraser Health. “Plus, the prep resources and guidance were incredibly helpful, giving me the confidence I needed for the exam.”

Becoming a certified CRP is a significant achievement. “[It] serves as official acknowledgment of an individual’s expertise, enhancing their practical experience and instilling confidence in employers.”, says Lovelyn Charles, ACRP-CP, Senior Scientist, Clinical Research. “Participating in this program has been a transformative experience for me. The networking opportunities it provided allowed me to connect with other professionals in the industry, fostering valuable relationships that I continue to benefit from today.”

To date, we have enabled over 110 professionals to become certified. This distinguished group of professionals contributes their expertise to a range of activities in clinical research, ensuring high standards in trial conduct and strengthening the clinical trial ecosystem in BC.

Upcoming sessions of the study groups in 2025 will be announced through our newsletter, X (formerly Twitter), or LinkedIn.
