Organizers of the ITP from Clinical Trials BC and Pfizer Canada

On November 2, Clinical Trials BC teamed up with Pfizer Canada to organize the Investigator Training Program (ITP). It was a one-day, hybrid workshop designed for clinical trial investigators and research site team members in BC. In total, more than 300 attendees from over 55 different organizations took part in the training onsite at UBC Alumni Centre and virtually across all parts of BC.

Covering the entire trial process, the ITP offered new clinical trial investigators, clinicians, and other research team members a great starter guide to conducting regulated clinical trials in Canada and supported more seasoned ones interested in improving required skills and practical knowledge. The workshop consisted of presentations by industry experts and Q&A sessions in between which brought each topic to life with real-world examples and rich and engaging discussions.

“It was a pleasure collaborating with Clinical Trials BC on the delivery of the ITP on November 2, 2022.” said Claudia De Paola, director, site relationship partner at Pfizer Canada. “This educational workshop aims at upskilling clinical trial sites in the conduct of clinical trials from planning through to the close out. We appreciate this opportunity that allowed us to reach so many individuals in BC who are involved in the clinical trial process”.

Completion of this course satisfies Good Clinical Practice training requirements and TransCelerate mutual recognition criteria for conducting clinical trials. More than 260 attendees received training certificates which is a great expansion of BC’s quality workforce pool to conduct clinical trials in the province.

“Providing educational opportunities is a core focus of our work at Clinical Trials BC to grow a clinical trial-ready workforce in British Columbia.” Added Alison Orth, unit director at Clinical Trials BC. “We were pleased to recently host the ITP delivered by Pfizer, and I was thrilled to see the high number of attendees from across the province. We thank our colleagues at Pfizer for their proactive approach to enabling regulatory compliance for trial conduct and for partnering with us to bring the ITP to our clinical trial community”.

Feedback from attendees:

“The workshop was such a great learning experience. I am new to clinical research and this was the perfect starter guide. Presenters were effective and knowledgeable”.

“Really a good review for seasoned researchers but an excellent program for newer researchers”.

“As an investigator preparing to initiate clinical trials, who has acquired some background knowledge, the workshop provided numerous specific details that I had not yet had reason to consider or plan for”.
