Dr. Xuekui Zhang got his PhD degree in statistics from the University of British Columbia (2007-2011). He was a visiting scholar at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (2011), supported by Canada Graduate Scholarships–MSFSS. After PhD training, Xuekui became a postdoctoral fellow (partially funded by a NSERC PDF award 2011-2013) at the Department of Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins University.
Xuekui’s primary appointment is at the University of Victoria, where he was recruited in 2017 as an assistant professor and Canada Research Chair in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics. Before that, he worked as a PhD statistician at pharmaceutical companies Eli Lilly & Co. and AstraZeneca (2014-2017). Xuekui is also an associate member of Centre for Heart Lung Innovation, UBC (2019-2024) and an adjunct professor at Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba.
Xuekui’s research focus is to develop and apply novel biostatistics methods and software tools to solve real-world problems in medicine research. His research interests include: (1) bioinformatics, (2) biostatistics, (3) machine learning, (4) design of clinical trials, (5) COPD, (6) other big data problems.
