Dr. Tal Jarus is a professor in the Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Her research expertise spans equity, diversion, and inclusion, social justice, and disability studies. In particular, Dr. Jarus is interested in increasing equity and inclusion of people with disabilities in the health and human services. Dr. Jarus’ research investigates the lived experience of students and clinicians with disabilities and co-develops best practices for supporting them.
Dr. Jarus’ recent projects include a study to engage Indigenous communities in health professions educational programs at UBC, funded by UBC’s Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund; a SSHRC-funded national study aimed at increasing accessibility and equity in health and human service educational programs; and a project funded by MSFHR, entitled “Promoting the uptake of a virtual reality (VR) game for children with autism.”
Dr. Jarus has been an occupational therapist for 38 years and was named a Fellow of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) in 2018 in recognition of her contributions and service to the profession.
