Stephanie Harvard is a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (start date: January, 2020). She received a PhD in Population and Public Health in a joint program between the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) and Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris) in 2017. Her doctoral research focused on how to use observational data the estimate the cost-effectiveness of adhering to clinical guidelines for spondyloarthritis. This work led her to develop an interest in the role of social and ethical values in health economics modelling.
Stephanie’s current focus is on the implications of philosophy’s values in science literature for health economics and knowledge translation (KT). While a post-doctoral fellow at Simon Fraser University from 2018-2019, she designed and led the research project “Social, Ethical, and Other Values in Health Economics and Simulation Modelling”, which was funded by the Health Economics and Simulation Modelling Methods Cluster and done in partnership with Diego Silva (SFU) and Greg Werker (UBC). Her MSFHR-funded post-doctoral work will build on the findings of this study, to help ensure that health economics research in BC is clear, understandable, and informed by patient and public values.
