Sharon Hou

Dr. Sharon Hou is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University, and a Registered Psychologist and an Investigator at BC Children’s Hospital and the Research Institute. Dr. Hou’s research focuses on understanding how cultural and structural factors shape the healthcare experiences and well-being of underrepresented and underserved youth and families with serious and life-threatening conditions, including cancer, eating disorders, and severe neurological impairments.

Grounded in social science theories and informed by principles of equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and decolonization, Dr. Hou’s program of research aims to generate insights into how youth and families flourish within diverse sociocultural contexts. These findings inform the co-creation and implementation of culturally responsive interventions that promote equitable health outcomes.
