Dr. Scott Lear, PhD, is a professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University (SFU). He is the inaugural Pfizer/Heart and Stroke Foundation Chair in Cardiovascular Prevention Research at St. Paul’s Hospital and the Academic Director of the Healthy Hearts program.
Lear’s research over more than 20 years spans the breadth of prevention of chronic diseases at a population level to the management of chronic diseases at an individual level. This includes the identification of environmental characteristics that may act as facilitators and barriers of healthy lifestyle habits; investigation to identify the role of ethnic background in risk for obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and how technology can help improve health care access and delivery.
Lear is also the director of SFU’s Community Health Solutions, a research group that engages with community partners to bring a systems approach to the challenge of chronic disease prevention and management.
