Salma Shickh

Dr. Salma Shickh is a postdoctoral fellow at BC Cancer and the Sick Kids Research Institute. 

She recently completed her PhD at the University of Toronto, where she studied the clinical utility of genomic technologies in cancer patients. Her PhD work was supported by funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors. Prior to her PhD, Salma practiced as a genetic counsellor for several years, specializing in cancer and pediatric genetics. 

 

Her post-doctoral work with BC Cancer will focus on the implementation of a pilot genetic screening program for BRCA1/2 gene mutations, among the Ashkenazi Jewish population. Her work aims to provide evidence to support population screening to identify patients and families at high risk of cancer. She currently holds postdoctoral fellowship funding from CIHR and Michael Smith Health Research BC.
