Patrick Reeson

Dr. Patrick Reeson is interested in how the brain (neurons) and its blood supply (blood vessels) work in concert to ensure the brain functions properly. The brain is one of the most metabolically active organs in your body, and we know large interruptions in flow kill neurons (stroke) but we also know much smaller clogs occur in the smallest blood vessels all the time. This small clogs are very likely associated with dementia, but the who, what, where and why are all still very unclear.

His research aims to understand how the brain’s vasculature deals with these clogs, and why sometimes it fails, and how these blocked up micro-vessels might lead to dysfunction in neural circuits.
