Dr. Myeong Jin Ju completed his PhD at the University of British Columbia and continued to improve his research skills at Simon Fraser University and Vancouver General Hospital Eye Care Centre.
Ju’s research area is in biomedical imaging system development and image analysis, with a specific technology concentration on medical imaging and with knowledge translation and applications to clinical vision research. He has been working on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), revolutionizing clinical eye care. Since the start of his research career in OCT research, he has been working on expanding its application area and functional capabilities as well as its technological development. Especially, Ju’s major contributions on its functional extensions were OCT based angiography (visualization of blood vessels) and polarimetry (contrast based on molecules that change the polarization of light), using these functional capabilities to examine the human eye in vivo, both anterior and posterior chambers, with results that have made an impact to clinical applications in ophthalmology.
