Mónica Romera Hernández

Dr. Mónica Romera Hernández is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Her research expertise includes innate lymphoid cell biology, gut and lung immunology and tissue regeneration. Dr. Romera Hernández’s current research focus is to investigate the link between innate immunology and disease pathogenesis to define new therapeutic avenues in several pulmonary disorders, ranging from bacterial or viral infections to the development of asthma and fibrosis.

Mónica obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Rotterdam in 2018, where she studied intestinal homeostasis and remodelling after injury, with a special focus on unrevealing the mechanisms by which innate lymphoid cells regulate intestinal epithelial stem cell behaviour, thus contributing to tissue regeneration. During her doctoral studies, she was the recipient of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network Fellowship and was selected to present at top abstract sessions at international conferences. Dr. Romera Hernández enjoys mentoring scientists and her determination is to translate her academic knowledge into the clinical treatments of severe lung syndromes.
