Liam Hall

Dr. Liam Hall is a postdoctoral research fellow in the lab of Dr. James Johnson at the Life Sciences Institute at the University of British Columbia. He completed his PhD in 2021 at Deakin University in Australia, under the supervision of Dr. Sean McGee. Liam’s research aims to assist in the prevention and treatment of metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes.

His dissertation focused on uncovering new therapeutic options for the treatment of heart disease in obesity and diabetes by investigating the role of the Alzheimer’s Disease protein amyloid beta-42 in the development of heart disease. Liam’s current postdoctoral research, funded by Health Research BC, focuses on understanding how exercise and inactivity change the risk of developing obesity and diabetes. Through the use of preclinical mouse models, he aims to uncover molecular pathways by which exercise and inactivity impact the health and function of tissues such as the pancreas, fat, and liver and investigate the role of the hormone insulin in the development of metabolic disease.
