Dr. Kotaro Suzuki obtained his MD and PhD degrees from Kobe University and practiced as a certified clinical urologist in Japan. Aiming to pursue a career as a physician-scientist to improve the clinical performance on diagnosis and treatment strategies, Kotaro joined Dr. Martin Gleave’s research team at the Vancouver Prostate Centre in the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia as a postdoctoral research fellow.
Kotaro’s current research at Vancouver Prostate Centre focuses on the asparagine endopeptidase (AEP), a lysosomal protease, which is found to be modulated upon the treatment stress in the prostate cancer (PCa). With the Health Research BC Research Trainee award, Kotaro will evaluate the role of AEP in the treatment responses and resistance development in PCa and explore the therapeutic value of AEP in PCa. His research may provide novel findings to improve the treatment outlines in PCa patients.
