Kelly L Brown

Dr. Kelly L Brown is a new investigator and first PhD scientist to be appointed a UBC Faculty member of the Division of Rheumatology at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH). Her interest and expertise in inflammatory processes crosses the spectrum of rheumatic diseases and enables basic and translational research in her lab into the causes of disease and the development of biomarkers of inflammation that can be used by physicians to provide better care to patients.

Past research led to the first demonstrated potential to treat inflammatory injury in the neonatal brain (2014 Annals Neurol), the identification of putative biomarkers of childhood autoinflammatory disease (2013 Arthr & Rheumat), development of synthetic immunomodulatory peptides (2007 Trends Immunol, 2006 J Immunology), and new understanding of the role of reactive oxygen species in inflammation (2008 Arthr & Rheumat, 2010 Free Radic Biol Med).

Dr. Brown’s lab works closely with the clinical team at BC Children’s Hospital and local parents and patients to ensure that her research is relevant to their needs and has the potential to transform care for children in BC with rheumatic diseases.
