Katherine Dixon

Dr. Katherine Dixon is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia and Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre at BC Cancer. Under the supervision of Drs. Steven Jones and Stephen Yip, she is studying the molecular basis of rare human disease using new genome sequencing technologies.

Although rare diseases collectively affect millions of people worldwide, the cause of disease in many cases is not known. This creates challenges for clinical and family decision-making, and may lead to missed opportunities for treatment. Through her research, Katherine hopes to advance the development and application of molecular and computational methods towards improving molecular diagnosis in rare diseases.

Katherine completed her PhD in Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia in 2020 where she studied the genetics and disease biology of cancer predisposition syndromes. Throughout her training, she has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications, participates in international academic and industry-sponsored events, and participates in multidisciplinary initiatives for translating research findings into improved clinical management of cancer syndromes.
