Dr. John Oliffe is a professor in the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia. As lead investigator of the Men’s Health Research Program, his studies focus on understanding the health practices and impact of illnesses on men’s well-being and health management. His research encompasses diverse issues, including prostate cancer support groups (www.prostatecancerhelpyourself.ubc.ca), depression and suicide (www.mensdepressionhelpyourself.ubc.ca), and smoking (www.facet.ubc.ca). His studies also address the tripartite of men’s health research issues — empirical, methodological and theoretical. Moreover, his contributions include using qualitative methods to develop men-centered health promotion interventions.
