Jessica Lougheed

Dr. Jessica Lougheed (she/her/hers) is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO). She earned her PhD in developmental psychology from Queen’s University in 2016 and then held a SSHRC-funded Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Pennsylvania State University from 2016-2018. She then spent two years as an assistant professor in human development and family science prior to her current position at UBCO.

The broad aim of her research program is to better understand how emotion dynamics are related to mental health and well-being. She examines emotion dynamics using multiple methods and perspectives, including autonomic nervous system responses to emotional situations in the laboratory and intensive surveys in daily life. In one current research project funded by a SSHRC Insight Development Grant, she is examining adolescents’ and their primary caregivers’ day-to-day experiences of mood and stress to better understand how family dynamics are related to mental health. She aims to bring the important contextual perspectives from developmental psychology into health research.
