Jelena Komanchuk

Dr. Jelena Komanchuk is a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia in the Okanagan. As a pediatric Registered Nurse, Jelena observed health and developmental inequities for children exposed to early adverse experiences, such as abuse and neglect. These experiences encouraged her to enter graduate school and continue to influence her research interests. She completed her PhD in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary in 2023, and focused on the use of digital interventions to promote parent-child interactions and children’s development for families who are underserved (such as those who have experienced family violence) with in-person resources. Jelena’s postdoctoral research is focused on understanding and promoting sleep health for young children and their caregivers in foster and kinship care through community engagement and mixed methods research.
