James Lan

Dr. James Lan is an assistant professor in the UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Division of Nephrology. He is the director of the HLA Laboratory in Vancouver, and a transplant nephrologist at the Vancouver General Hospital. He obtained his medical degree, internal medicine, and nephrology training at the University of British Columbia, followed by cross-training in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics under Dr. Elaine Reed at the UCLA Immunogenetics Center.

In addition to his clinical roles, Lan holds multiple research grants which support the development and application of biomarkers to prevent rejection. A major focus of his current research aims to innovate new solutions to improve access to transplantation for highly sensitized, difficult-to-match patients on the kidney wait list.
