Farinaz Havaei

Dr. Farinaz (Naz) Havaei is a registered nurse and an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC)’s School of Nursing. She has a nursing PhD from UBC where she received an Outstanding Dissertation Award for her research on nursing models of care. During her PhD studies, she also earned a sub-specialty in Measurement, Evaluation and Research Methodology from the UBC School of Educational Psychology. Havaei also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the prestigious Stigma and Resilience Among Vulnerable Youth Center where she honed her quantitative methodological skills using large and complex national and international databases.

The overarching aim of Havaei’s research program is to improve the workplace psychological health and safety of the nursing workforce, the largest health human resource in Canada, by optimizing workforce and patient outcomes in one of the most vulnerable healthcare sectors — long-term care (LTC). Her research utilizes mixed methods and an integrative knowledge translation approach that involves LTC providers (e.g. nurses), residents and family members, administrators, policy makers and advocacy organizations.
