Elena Argento

Dr. Elena Argento is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia working with the BC Centre on Substance Use and the Regional Addiction Program at Vancouver Coastal Health. She obtained a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of British Columbia and an MPH in Global Health from Simon Fraser University. Her research focuses on evaluating and exploring innovative interventions for substance use issues and improving access to treatment and care among marginalized populations. Her work aims to improve health and human rights among people who use drugs and inform evidence-based and gender-sensitive policies and practices.

Dr. Argento has worked with community-based research projects in Mysore, India and Vancouver, Canada. Her PhD thesis examined the interplay between drug use, violence and suicidality among marginalized women and explored the therapeutic potential of psychedelics. Her doctoral research was supported by a Killam Scholarship and a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) award. She currently holds postdoctoral fellowship funding from CIHR and MSFHR.
