Catherine Costigan

Dr. Costigan’s research program focuses to the advancement of health among newcomers to Canada. As a professor of psychology and registered psychologist, her focus has been predominantly on the study of mental heath, including the identification of modifiable risk factors that are associated with health inequities among individuals with immigrant or refugee backgrounds. Dr. Costigan’s work is in partnership with several community partners, including the Vancouver Island Counseling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees, the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society, and the Intercultural Association of Greater Victoria. She is also a co-founder of the Victoria Migrant Mental Health Network, a community-university partnership that advocates for health equity among newcomers populations.
