Caroline Cameron

Dr. Caroline Cameron is an associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Victoria, and a Canada Research Chair in Molecular Pathogenesis. She is also funded by a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar Award. Cameron holds operating grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the US National Institutes of Health.

The Cameron laboratory focuses on spirochetal bacteria, with a specific focus on Treponema pallidum (causative agent of syphilis) and Leptospira (causative agent of leptospirosis). The overall objective of the research is to identify and characterize molecules that are central to the pathogenesis of these important human pathogens.
