Dr. Anna Herrmann received her BSc and MSc in chemistry from the Freie Universität Berlin, where she completed her PhD in 2020. Her previous field of research was to develop functional, synthetic hydrogels and their immobilization onto different surfaces. She characterized the hydrogels regarding their physical and chemical properties and studied their performance in bioanalytical assays.
Recently, she started working as a postdoctoral fellow in biomedical research at the University of British Columbia. Her goal is to develop a novel cell surface engineering approach to protect and rapidly rebuild the glycocalyx to prevent inflammation and immune-mediated damage of cells and organs.
