Dr. Amal El-Naggar is a board-certified pathologist and is currently a senior postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Poul Sorensen’s lab at the BC Cancer Research Centre. She undertook her medical degree, pathology residency, and master’s degree in Egypt prior to joining Dr. Sorensen’s lab in January 2009 while pursuing her PhD.
El-Naggar’s interest is in conserved cell stress signaling pathways and how they relate to human pathology, as well as identifying novel targets for the treatment of cancer. Her current research focuses on targeting specific components of stress signalling to block childhood sarcoma metastasis.
El-Naggar collaborates with leading scientists on several research projects focusing on stress response and its link to cancer metastasis. She is frequently invited for oral and poster presentations of her work in national and international conferences, and has won several prizes and awards for her work.
