Sonya Cressman

Dr. Sonya Cressman studies the economic and equity impacts of healthcare decisions. She is a health economist at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation, and an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. She specializes in the evaluation of risk models and complex healthcare decisions. She has gained international recognition as a leader in the economics of risk-based lung screening. She is currently leading the AIRWISE community-partnered lung health project — a co-design study aimed at improving access to lung health services. Dr. Cressman’s research at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation focuses on evaluating the societal costs of depression such as lost productivity, out of pocket expenses, and informal caregiving costs related to the treatment of depression. She is also member of a large international team of kidney transplant specialists working towards improving the efficiency of kidney allocation decisions and how such decisions affect access to and outcomes from kidney transplantation..
