Dr. Vera-Ellen Lucci received her PhD in biomedical physiology and kinesiology (BPK) from Simon Fraser University, where she examined the profound impact of spinal cord injury on the body’s ability to control autonomic cardiovascular functions. She has received numerous awards for her doctoral work including a BC SUPPORT Unit Graduate Fellowship, the inaugural Bastion of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology Graduate Award, and the Dean of Science Convocation Medal.
In addition to the Health Research BC Research Trainee award, Dr. Vera-Ellen also holds a Canadian Institute for Health Research Fellowship for the postdoctoral work she is pursuing at Simon Fraser University, where she is examining the cardiovascular mechanisms of syncope (fainting), under the supervision of Dr. Victoria Claydon.
