Stirling Bryan

Stirling Bryan is a university-based health economist who has had extensive engagement with the policy and decision-making world. He began his career in the UK with appointments at St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School and then Brunel University, before moving to Birmingham. For many years, he led the University of Birmingham team that conducted economic analyses for the National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE), and subsequently served for 3 years as a member of the NICE technology appraisals committee.

He was recruited to be Director of the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology & Evaluation, VCH Research Institute, and professor in UBC’s School of Population & Public Health in 2008 – and he continues a focus on policy-relevant research. He has served as chair of the Health Technology Expert Review Panel, an advisory body to the Canadian Agency for Drugs & Technologies in Health (CADTH).

In 2016, he took on the role of Scientific Director for the BC SUPPORT Unit, a component part of Canada’s Strategy for Patient Oriented Research and a Unit within BC’s Academic Health Science Network (AHSN).

In 2020, he assumed the role of President of the BC AHSN.
