Stacey Skoretz

Dr. Stacey Skoretz is an assistant professor in the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences and director for the Swallowing Innovations Lab (Si-Lab) at UBC. She is a speech-language pathologist and assistant clinical professor with the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alberta. She is an associate member of the UBC Centre for Heart and Lung Innovation and affiliated with St. Paul’s Hospital (Critical Care, Providence Health) and Fraser Health.

Skoretz’ research focuses on upper aerodigestive tract physiology following critical illness and artificial airway use. Main goals of her laboratory are to: 1) investigate the integration of multi-system physiology during swallowing and 2) create a dysphagia risk profile to aid in the early identification of swallowing impairments (dysphagia) following prolonged mechanical ventilation. Her investigations span biomechanical and biomarker analyses, clinical practice pattern assessment, and clinical practice guideline development for those with artificial airways. Si-Lab is funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation, BC Knowledge and Development Fund and a Fraser Health Strategic Priorities grant.
