Dr. Shelley Canning is an Associate Professor of Nursing and the Director of the Centre for Education and Research in Ageing at the University of the Fraser Valley. Both my research and my clinical practice experiences have centred on improving the quality of life for older adults including those living with dementia. I am a qualitative researcher working with participants who are community living and those living in long-term care homes, exploring the benefits of arts based interventions and the impact of the outdoors and natural environment. I also recognize the imperative in today’s ageing society to address ageism and dementia-ism and am engaged in research to support meaning educational opportunities and social connections between the generations.
