Rick is Professor at the Trinity Western University School of Nursing. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Person-Centred Outcomes and is the Lead on Patient-Reported Outcomes at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences (CHEOS) at Providence Health Care. Rick’s research focuses on the validation and use of person-centred outcome measures and quality of life assessment tools in healthcare, with a particular emphasis on people who have chronic life-limiting illnesses and their family caregivers.
Provincially, Rick contributes to the strategy of patient-oriented research as co-lead of the Patient-Centred Measurement Methods Cluster with the BC SUPPORT Unit, a multi-partner organization that carries out patient-oriented research in order to improve healthcare outcomes for all people. Rick’s current research includes projects on statistical methods for individualized person-centred outcomes measurement; the integration of electronic quality of life assessments in clinical practice; the use of person-centred outcome measures for healthcare decision making; and integration of a palliative approach.
