Dr. Printha Wijesinghe holds dual PhDs from Maastricht University (Netherlands) and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (Sri Lanka). She played a key role in establishing Sri Lanka’s first human brain bank and led pioneering studies on age-related cytoskeletal pathologies in elderly brains. Dr. Wijesinghe began her Canadian research career at the University of British Columbia (UBC), investigating idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss and microRNA biomarkers. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at UBC. Her work focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, specifically examining clearance mechanisms at the inner blood–retina barrier in postmortem AD donor eyes—an anatomical and functional analog of the blood–brain barrier. In parallel, she investigates tear-based microRNA biomarkers for early detection of Alzheimer’s disease, using translational mouse models and samples from human participants, while integrating key risk factors such as age, sex, and APOE genotype.
