Kyle Duncan

Dr. Kyle Duncan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Facutly of Science and Technology at Vancouver Island University. He received a B.Sc. in Biology from VIU, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Victoria, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Uppsala University (Sweden). Kyle’s research program works at the interface between analytical chemistry, engineering, and biochemistry to design, build, develop, and apply custom ambient mass spectrometry imaging instrumentation. This technology can be used to visualize and study the distributions of biomolecules directly in tissue. In addition to custom hardware, his group also develops open-access software tools to support the exploration of large mass spectrometry imaging datasets. The overall goal of Kyle’s research program is to uncover contextual distributions of biomolecules in complex tissues to elucidate molecular mechanisms of disease.
