I am a plastic surgeon-scientist at the University of British Columbia with a translational research program focused on peripheral nerve regeneration, neuropathy, and neuropathic pain. My work is grounded in a bench-to-bedside approach, exemplified by the development of conditioning electrical stimulation (CES) as a therapy—beginning with mechanistic studies in rodent models and progressing to clinical use in humans. I collaborate with researchers at the UofS and UofA. focused on identifying and translating other perioperative strategies, such as acute intermittent hypoxia, electrical stimulation, and exercise therapy, that can enhance nerve regeneration, reduce neuropathic pain, and improve surgical outcomes for patients with nerve injury or chronic neuropathy.
