Jackie Whittaker

Dr. Jackie Whittaker completed a BScPT at the University of Alberta, a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Southampton (UK) and then postdoctoral research at the Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre, University of Calgary. She is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, Research Scientist at Arthritis Research Canada, and a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar. Her main research focus is prevention of chronic musculoskeletal conditions, with a particular interest in osteoarthritis.

Her research involves understanding the consequences of youth sport-related knee injuries, optimizing healthcare pathways for youth that experience a knee injury, and developing interventions to reduce the risk of osteoarthritis after knee injury. Her research has led to the identification of common factors that mediate knee injury and the osteoarthritis onset. Central to her work is an integrated knowledge translation approach, involving patients and health professional throughout the research-to-practice continuum.
