Dr. Genelle Healey obtained her Bachelor of Science and Dietetic degrees from the University of Otago and a PhD in Nutritional Science from Massey University in New Zealand.
Healey is a postdoctoral research fellow with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia. She is the recipient of a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Trainee award.
The current focus of her research is to better understand the mechanisms of action of a novel enteral nutrition strategy using animal models of inflammatory bowel disease. Her research will specifically focus on the immunomodulatory, gut microbiota altering and mucosal healing properties of this dietary therapy. In the future, this novel enteral nutrition strategy will be used in a randomized controlled trial to demonstrate its therapeutic efficacy in children with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
