Dr. Dawn Mackey is an epidemiologist and kinesiologist whose research seeks to identify and disseminate effective strategies for healthy aging though the maintenance of mobility and functional autonomy. Her research program on older adult mobility focuses on novels ways to promote physical activity, prevent debilitating fall-related injuries, and reduce fatigue during daily activities.
Dr. Mackey’s studies include randomized intervention trials, observational studies, laboratory experiments, and knowledge syntheses. Her studies examine a range of outcomes related to mobility and involve independent community-dwelling older adults, recipients of home health care, and residents of long-term care facilities.
In 2011 Dr. Mackey was recognized as an emerging Canadian scholar in the field of aging by a CIHR Institute of Aging Age+ Prize. Her doctoral work on osteoporotic fractures received a Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research and was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
