Dr. Andrews has a background in molecular biology and biochemistry, with a focus on nucleic acid biochemistry. His past work focused on the regulation of the innate immune system at the translational level, with findings published in reputable journals such as Genome Biology and Journal of Virology. Throughout his graduate studies, Dr. Andrews received several competitive federal awards, including NSERC CSG-M and PGS-D as well as a UBC Four-Year Fellowship. More recently, his interests have shifted to the use of nucleic acids as therapeutics, particularly mRNA. In 2023, he joined the lab of Dr. Brian MacVicar as a postdoctoral fellow to investigate the potential of LNP-mRNA therapeutics to treat neurodegenerative disease and traumatic brain injury. In his free time, he enjoys biking, trying to pull the perfect shot of espresso, and hanging out with his cats.
