Dr. Corliss Bean is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia Okanagan within the School of Health and Exercise Sciences where she holds a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Trainee award. Her postdoctoral research explores women’s experiences throughout their participation in the Small Steps for Big Changes program, a community-based exercise intervention for individuals living with prediabetes. Such research will help understand the facilitators and barriers to intervention engagement and help inform future interventions.
Bean completed her PhD at the University of Ottawa within the Faculty of Health Sciences. Her research program encompasses examining the development, implementation, and evaluation of community-based programs and understanding the health and development of special populations.
Bean’s doctoral research, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, focused on program quality and psychosocial development within youth sport programming. Dr. Bean is involved in research within the community and has worked with organizations at the local and national levels to develop curricula and evaluate programming.
