Brittany Carr

Dr. Brittany J. Carr is a postdoctoral fellow and MSFHR Research Trainee at the University of British Columbia in the Department Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Her research expertise includes photoreceptor outer segment morphogenesis, inherited retinal degenerative disease, and myopia pharmacology. Dr. Carr’s current research focus is to investigate the relationship between defects in photoreceptor outer segment assembly and the pathogenesis of blindness-causing diseases such as cone-rod dystrophy and retinitis pigmentosa.

Brittany obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Calgary in 2017, where she identified two novel targets for the development of pharmaceutical interventions against myopia (near-sightedness). During her doctoral studies, she was the recipient of a federal NSERC PGSD scholarship, a Dr. D. Grant Gall Graduate Traineeship, and multiple Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarships. Dr. Carr enjoys teaching and mentoring. Her career goal is to become an academic vision scientist.
