Brian Grunau

Dr. Brian Grunau, MD MHSc, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine and the Resuscitation Innovation Lead in the BC Emergency Medicine Network. He has worked clinically as Emergency Physician at St. Paul’s Hospital since 2011. Dr. Grunau’s primary research interest is the management of refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), and has published over 55 peer-reviewed articles. He is an investigator and co-chair of the Cardiac Arrest Committee within the Canadian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium, the chair of the BC Resuscitation Science Committee, and the co-chair of the Canadian ECPR Research Network for OHCA.

He has twice been awarded the American Heart Association (AHA) Young Investigator Award, as well as a CanROC Early Career Investigator Award. Dr. Grunau volunteers as a content expert for the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF), and has contributed to the AHA/HSF Heartsaver and ACLS Experienced Provider courses. He has spoken internationally on the topic of resuscitation, including as an invited speaker at the EuroELSO and Canadian Critical Care meetings. He works closely with BC Emergency Health Services to translate knowledge into front-line practise.
