Anna Blakney

Dr. Anna Blakney is an assistant professor in the Michael Smith Laboratories and School of Biomedical Engineering at University of British Columbia. She completed her PhD at the University of Washington in Bioengineering. She then received Whitaker and Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowships to train with professors Robin Shattock and Molly Stevens at Imperial College London, where she developed delivery platforms for self-amplifying RNA vaccines.

The Blakney lab investigates the interactions between RNA, biomaterials and the immune system in order to harness this knowledge to design next generation RNA vaccines and therapies. The group is highly interdisciplinary and includes bioengineers, immunologists and molecular biologists with the ultimate goal of equitably preventing and treating disease.
