Allie Slemon

Allie Slemon [she/they] is a Registered Nurse and an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria. She began her nursing career working within mental health inpatient settings, before completing a Master’s and PhD at the University of British Columbia. Her program of research focuses enhancing capacity for equity and social justice within the nursing profession and across the health care system. In particular, she focuses her work on remediating inequities in health care for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and people who experience mental health challenges. Across projects, she utilizes community-engaged approaches to ensure that strategies to promote equity in health care systems are grounded in the voices of people most impacted by structural inequities. Ultimately, this program of research envisions – and actively works towards – a future where nurses are empowered and prepared to remediate persistent inequities, and therefore where current equity-owed groups experience safe and equitable healthcare.
