A new team award supporting groundbreaking, BC-led research in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) is now open for applications.

Neurodegenerative diseases are among the most pressing health challenges affecting older adults. They present a significant and growing public health challenge across Canada.

This funding opportunity supports BC-led research that advances understanding of AD and/or PD, investigates shared disease mechanisms, and strengthens the evidence needed to improve diagnosis, treatment, and care. By investing in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams, it aims to generate meaningful, real-world impact for people living with these conditions.

This opportunity emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, encouraging knowledge exchange and the building of research networks across BC.

We are calling for proposals that:

  • Identify and advance approaches to support earlier detection and diagnosis of AD and/or PD;
  • Identify, develop, and advance therapeutic approaches to treat or manage AD and/or PD;
  • Co-design, develop, and test new or improved programs and interventions to support people living with AD and/or PD; or
  • Co-design, develop, and test new or improved care strategies or approaches to enhance the quality of care for people with AD and/or PD.

Teams are encouraged to engage people with lived experience (PLWE), community partners, and other research users across the research cycle where appropriate. Top-up funding is available to support engagement of research users.

A collaborative initiative

This funding opportunity is made possible by the Canada Brain Research Fund, an innovative arrangement between the Government of Canada (through Health Canada) and the Brain Canada Foundation, in partnership with:

  • Alzheimer Society of B.C.
  • Branch Out Neurological Foundation
  • CLEAR Foundation
  • Health Research BC
  • Parkinson Society BC
  • The Patrick & Dulcie Lenox Endowment

Together, the partners are investing in BC’s research capacity, supporting new research collaborations, and building the next generation of leaders in neurodegenerative disease research.
