Health Research BC alumni secure $40.97M in national funding
16 September 2025
BC health researchers are making their mark on the national stage — and attracting major investments to the province.
Through its Project Grant spring 2025 competition, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) awarded $40.97 million to 45 BC-based projects led by researchers who have been supported by Michael Smith Health Research BC throughout the years.
These grants will drive solutions for pressing health challenges, including mental health and addiction, chronic disease prevention, and health equity and inclusion. The awards include 41 Project Grants and four Priority Announcement Grants, each designed to move innovative ideas into action.
Health Research BC supports researchers through funding programs that help build research talent and capacity in BC. Securing national grants is often the next step — fueling new jobs, innovation, and economic growth while advancing health research in the province.
By investing in people, we’re strengthening BC’s health research ecosystem. BC researchers are driving discoveries, training the next generation, and improving health for communities here and across Canada.
We congratulate these researchers on their achievements and the lasting health and economic benefits their work will bring.
