Vancouver Island University researchers are engaging with communities to solve pressing challenges that impact health across the region.

Supported by Michael Smith Health Research BC Scholar awards, Michael Asmussen, Sharon Karsten and Sandy Shultz are making real world impacts – both locally and beyond.

From improving outcomes for people who have experiences domestic violence to helping people recover from traumatic injuries to exploring new approaches to the toxic drug crisis, learn how their research supports healthier communities.

The Island Centre of the BC SUPPORT Unit has worked closely with these researchers to provide support in applying for awards, patient engagement, and knowledge translation.
