Positioning BC’s health research system for the future: Research impact
29 July 2025
The gap between research and practice remains a persistent challenge. While research has produced evidence for enhancing care and improving health outcomes, translating these findings into programs and policies is difficult. This disconnect limits the impact of health research.
Health Research BC is working to close this gap through targeted, community-engaged funding that supports the integration of research evidence directly into practice. By investing in programs designed to address priority issues, we are ensuring that research drives improvements in health and care.
A prime example of this commitment is the Advancing the Use of Evidence in Seniors’ Home and Community Care Program, launched earlier this year. The program funds research teams to implement promising approaches in seniors’ care in the health system and evaluate the outcomes. It will provide evidence to help decision-makers support programs that help seniors to live longer, healthier lives more independently in their communities.
This program provides a model for translating evidence into action, offering resources and support for research teams implementing proven interventions in complex, real-world settings.
This approach is part of our strategic focus on mobilizing action on health research priorities. By championing research that’s both relevant and ready for implementation, we are supporting a future where evidence contributes directly to healthier communities.
