Evidence underpins everything we do at Health Research BC.
We are working to promote understanding of science across different audiences, catalyze science-based approaches in the health system and communities, and contribute to the emerging evidence on both health research systems and learning health systems.
Current initiatives
Research Ethics Model Design Initiative
As part of the Research Approvals Process Project, the Ministry of Health has invited Health Research BC to explore the establishment of a provincial health authority research ethics board service.
Research Approvals Processes Project (RAPP)
The Ministry of Health has initiated the Research Approvals Processes Project (RAPP), a provincial commitment to strengthen a research positive culture within the health system. It seeks to address challenges for health researchers through improvements in operational approvals, ethics reviews, contracts and agreements, data access, and privacy reviews.
BC Health Research System Rapid Assessment
Health Research BC, in collaboration with the Health Research Council of BC, conducted a high-level assessment of the provincial health research system. Through interviews with key informants, current strengths, weaknesses, and areas of opportunity were identified to build a stronger health research system.
Long-Term Care Quality Initiative
The Long-Term Care Quality Initiative (LTC-QI) aims to embed research and translate knowledge into evidenced-based best practices in the long-term care (LTC) sector across BC. It is a collaborative partnership between Michael Smith Health Research BC, the Ministry of Health, health authorities, and research and academic communities.
